This is latin, of course, for “Let the buyer beware”… or  more accurately for today BE-AWARE.

All to often we see website companies, SEO companies, and Internet Marketing firms making absurd claims and taking advantage of people.    This is mainly due to the fact that the internet is changing very quickly, and the ill-informed can easily be sold a bag of goods that are already outdated.  So before you go off and buy a lemon,  it may be prudent to learn a little about WHAT you are buying and WHY.  This will enable you to make informed decisions about what would be best for your particular needs.

“Free” Websites…

So many  companies are offering “free” websites, and really cheap websites we thought it best to address those first.  First the free website deals.  Yes, you can get a free website… of course it will have advertisements all over it, be very limited in functionality, have a very slim chance of ever reaching the top of any major search engine, and you may have to settle for some weird name like www.mywebcompany.getafreesite.com.  So there you have it.  These sites are great for beginners, and hobbies because they are free.  However, if you are serious about promoting your business,  they are sub par at best.

“Cheap”  Websites

Many companies offer cheap websites, but for the most part you are only a little step above the aforementioned free site syndrome.  With web 2.0 in full swing, old style HTML websites are fast becoming extinct.  The NEW internet 2.o is one of scripting, multi media, video, audio, virtual tours and virtual walk on models.  It is, for all practical purposes, a new frontier, and old “static” HTML sites are fast becoming history.  So, of course there are many companies who are trying to sell off as many of these as they can, at a reduced price.  Anyone want to buy a cheap IBM Selectric Typewriter?
